REIKI
Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation that also promotes healing - physical, emotional, and spiritual. It is typically accomplished through touch. During a Reiki session, warm and calming life source energy flows from the practitioner’s hands into the client, facilitating relaxation and releasing tension. This energy helps the body marshal the resources it needs to heal itself. Reiki may be performed through direct touch or from a distance.
WHAT TO EXPECT
During a typical Reiki session, you will lie down or recline - fully clothed - on a massage table or in a comfortable chair. Your practitioner will direct Reiki energy through their hands to the places in your body where it is needed. Your practitioner may let their hands be guided by intuition or place their hands in a series of predetermined positions - or both.
The Reiki session balances or removes blockages from your energy centers, also known as chakras. During the session, you may feel heat or coolness, pressure or tingling, perhaps even twitching. Some people may fall asleep during their sessions, while others may carry on a conversation. However you respond, you are sure to end the session feeling more relaxed, more peaceful, and energized.
BENEFITS OF REIKI
As Ann Baldwin notes in Reiki in Clinical Practice, while the precise “biological mechanism by which Reiki mediates its beneficial effects is not known….substantial evidence reveals that Reiki benefits almost everyone.”
Reiki is non-invasive, and it can address physical, emotional, and mental challenges. Reiki benefits can accrue after only a few minutes, and it can be performed in almost any environment.
Reiki has no side-effects and has been clinically shown to reduce acute and chronic pain, to enhance well-being during other medical treatments, and to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
