Animal Reiki
ANIMAL REIKI
As anyone who has ever spent time around animals knows, animals are more sensitive to energy than are people. It should be no surprise, then, that they too can benefit from and appreciate Reiki as well.
According to William Lee Rand: “Animals like Reiki at least as much as humans. They understand Reiki energy. Their awareness spectrum includes energies like Reiki, so they have a natural understanding of it. They live in the awareness of Reiki.”
WHAT TO EXPECT
The primary differences between animal Reiki and human Reiki sessions lie in the techniques used by the practitioner. When working with human clients, a practitioner is able to ask questions and get feedback - both verbal and nonverbal. A practitioner and client are typically in a room together with their eyes closed, and the practitioner uses various hand positions to facilitate energy flow through the client’s body. Sessions are typically an hour or longer.
Animal Reiki sessions may occur in many different settings - studios, barns, pastures, or forests. The practitioner keeps their eyes open to observe how the animal reacts and to ensure the safety of all involved. The animal’s caregiver often chooses to be present during treatment. Sessions are typically hands off unless the animal chooses hands on, and the sessions may be as short as fifteen minutes.
